E! Investigates with Laura Ling will air this Thursday December 15th we are told by producer Randy. We are very grateful for the help and support in getting our family’s story out there for the public to be aware of. To date, there have been no confirmed sightings since their disappearance on February 4, 2010.
Hopefully, this show will produce some leads in solving our case.

Maybe no searches were done about Passports and Mexico by the family? A good IT person can do great tricks. Was the computer networked with the business? Was it repaired recently? Were search time checked against credit cards, bank card times or phone calls? It could easily have been done by someone else, or a cAll from someone known, to look up something about childrens passports, or even a vacation planned. All the significant evidence leads to technology. Cell phone pings, when we are all smart enough to know about cell phone pings. I think the pings were part of the plan. Computer searches were part of the plan. We all fall back on what we know well.
Strange a guywould go meet a prospective employee as happened. WHO knew about that meeting? Perhaps he returned home from that meeting- with someone in his car..Got home, forced family in vehicle and the rest is history. If they planned the great escape, you dont leave that kind of cash in an account..you slowly start pulling it out. You dont leave such obvious evidence as the ping, clothing purchase or toy purchase-whTever yet not take it, the computer checks. A planned crime. Who had something major to gain that they would go through all the trouble? And it is pretty obvious, IF anyone wanted either of them it could have been easier to get one or another than both. tech specialists or repair tech person, educated tech person should belooked at. Too much evidence in that related field. We use our expertise, our minds go there for answers, plans, ideas, solutions. Who had the most to gain if both were killed? Who knew his schedule? Who could set up the evidence? who would even rhink it? Everything here, I thinkwas for a reason..it had a purpose. Purpose of tne computer searches? Purpose of the cell phone PINGS? Purpose of purchases made?
I would get forensic computer experts to go through their computer, office computers, look for whT is there- but maybe more, what isnt. Get forensic accpuntants to research the business/ reconstruct it all. Check phone and credit card patters. Were the tpys purchased where they always shop? Do the toys match the kids? Sporgs or board games or those childrens particular interests..thwir chi.d friends wou.d know? Ig she purchased clothes, were thwy at a regular store she used. Her style? Were they found? Werethe normal types of purchases the same as these? i.e. she used a bank card..did she normally? Signature?
And, all suspects, look over all their patterns. Vehicle they own and mileage vs oil changes or credit cards etc.or phone call patterns, appointment patterns? Rentals? Changes in computers or cell phones? in calls, out calls, messages when phone wasnt answered whereever it was?
The car parked as it was is totally evidence they didnt run awAy only to say, hey…over here!
The evidence is there for a reason…to make us all believe the obvious..hey, they are in Mexico! You dont run away that way…but you could mAke it too hard not to believe with the cell phone pings, the computer, the truck parked…
I say dont put much evidence on the meds in the teuck other than, he would hVe taken it, if he could…but only thlse of us that suffer from his types of medical issues would even think about that, and there was major screw up. A person with panic attacks…stays close to the meds….carry them with them..etc. persons with abnormal headches,,,Theze I know. Evwrything leads to abduction.Now, who would wAnt them both? who had gteatest gain? who had the skill and planning to pull it off? who knew his schedule? I always learned that NO ONE enters a crime scene with out leaving something behind…its a matter of finding it. I also believe that the earlier post from Mr. Moore is on it and also Lisa.I hope there could be something different….and that I am stupid as this is all so very, very upsetting, sad. Theolice have got to solve this and let us see the system does work!!!!!! If I had to, I would hire Mark Furman. or try to get him to just come help because this isnt a murser, but we have maybe 4 and 2 ate just babies and all deserved to live.

I am intrigued by this story since I first heard about it. I read a theory a while back that answered alot of questions, such as, why they left the money behind? Who is helping them financially? And most importantly why would they disappear or runaway all of a sudden and in such hurry. The person that wrote it said that maybe Joey found a very large sum of money in one of the fountains of his business. They were coming from Mex after all. It could have been trafficking money. A fountain sent to the wrong business. He finds it and decides to keep it. Tells Summer about it… They decide to keep as cash and save it for the kids future. Next thing you know suspicious men come to the business looking for the fountain specifically he says he sold it already. They leave. He starts to panic and get worried. Talks to Summer and they decide to run away with the kids and the money. He fears for their lives because he knows even if they give the money back they more then likely will get killed. So they run. Maybe the business partner calls and tells him these men keep coming back. They are asking questions. They just came back forced the friend to tell him where they live. Will kill him if he ever says anything so he is keeping quiet. Joey and Summer hide. Decide to cross the border as more then likely these men wont think of looking for them in Mexico. They are living on the cash, which is probably a very large sum of money. With druglords is hard to just go to the police. They have so many people in so many places working for them and people do crazy things for money. This is just another theory. Hopefully they are safe somewhere.
My best friend has had a business there for many years, and is now in prison for something he was a VICTIM of, and has been in jail for 6 months for NOTHING. This country is corrupt!!!!!! I wouldn’t be surprised if they were there, but have moved onto Panama or something. There are many dangerous characters there too.. so hopefully nothing has happened if they did go there.
What about the painter that quit the original job in their home. It was breifly mentioned on the show Disappeared, but I keep wondering, was it a friend, was he hired off craigslist, was he from Mexico? Did he return to the Mcstay home to finish the job and was told he had been replaced? Did they go to the border to pay this person for the job while shopping in the area and didn’t want to bring their vehicle with all the new merchandise (toys) across? How did they pay for the toys (isn’t there a bank record?) Did they meet up with someone off craigslist to buy the toys with cash(and was met with foul play)? Anyway just some things to think about. I wish the Mcstay family the best and hope family and friends soon get resolution, many people out there are praying for you all.
I am wondering the same things as you, Leah. I am in Maine, and have been following this story since 2010. I feel for Mike and the rest of the family of Joey and Summer, it’s just a terrible ordeal to go through. I just want Mike to know that I am keeping him and his whole family in my thoughts and prayers. I am optimistic for a happy outcome for everyone!!
Lastly, I just want to say that I get so frustrated at everyone inquiring about that money in the bank!! Why? I’ve just assumed it was a down payment for the large job he had just signed on for. It was probably the deposit the company/person that hired him gave to EIP! Who cares HOW it got there?? Sorry if I sound harsh, I just wish everyone would focus their efforts in a positive manner and try and help find these beautiful people!!
I just watched the E! special this morning. First I would like to say that where ever the family is, I hope that they are safe.
Whenever I watch specials like this I always try and find a clue, may it be something someone being interviewed says or the narrator says etc. The first clue that stuck with me throughout watching the entire special was when the mother of Joseph stated that Summer told her “You are not part of the four”. Also the brother and the mother both said things like Summer was kind of a difficult person, making be believe that they had noticed things about her. Then once they showed that Summer not only lied about her age, and had numerous aliases, shined the spotlight on her, and lead me to believe that she had something to do with it. From the beginning of the special I felt like the family was and still is alive. Now the footage they had of a family crossing the boarder and first I didn’t think it was them. Then the narrator said the Summer was learning spanish. To me it just all points to her.
Here’s my theory:
I believe that Summer was VERY possessive, not only did she tell Joseph’s mother that she wasn’t apart of the four, but also on the video clip of the family arriving at their new home, I heard Summer say in the background “I can’t do this” Something made me feel like she was not too happy about moving into that house. I believe that she didn’t want anyone breaking her unit of four (her, her husband, and her sons) So, what better way to get “away” from everyone than by just disappearing. I believe the house being a mess, was staged. I think she didn’t bring the dogs because, why would she? I mean, yes she loved them, but I believe she wanted it to look like they were kidnapped.
Also the friend of that was interviewed at the end to me, seemed like he was not telling the truth at all! For him to say that they don’t want to be found…. I do agree with that, I don’t think they want to be found. But I also believe that “Summer” does not want them to be found. But to me it felt like he already knew what Laura was going to ask him, and how he was going to answer it. And then when he said he wasn’t lying really made me believe that he was. And I think Laura knew it too, because that look on her face showed it.
I could be wrong, but its just my theory. At the end of the day All I hope is that the family is safe. And I pray for Joseph’s mother and brother, and that God gives them strength.
the more i hear about this the more i think this smells like summer is in hiding from some bad people. think about it not only the other names but the change in age. sounds like she made the mistake of falling in love. i think whatever has had her hiding has forced them into hiding together. that would explain why they brought nothing with them.( leaving no trail to follow). keeping the kids and him with her would keep the bad guys from finding them and using them to get to her. that would explain why he is not contacting his mom and brother. it would open up a trail to be followed to them. it also would explain why they took nothing (money,clothes,etc…) , that would tell the bad guys that they definitely left on their on. i think if someone can follow summers past back far enough they may find out why the names and ages. i think they have only scratched the surface on her.
