This has been a tough week for the family since it is not only Joey’s birthday on the 20th, but also Thanksgiving as well.
I know that sitting at lunch yesterday with Joey’s oldest son, we were missing 4 more loved ones and were left with only questions. The whole social media thing has caused this case to get a little “Jerry Springer-esk” for me. For some, it’s a story. For us, it’s real life.
Coming up in February will mark 3 years of their absence, and yet the Detectives, Family, & Friends still tirelessly do whatever they can to assist in the case. For everyone out there trying to help out, we are very grateful. For those who send in tips, we are grateful.
There have been many “vague” tips for the SDSD to chase down, so a suggestion has come up that should help. TAKE A PICTURE!!!!! When emailing or calling in tips, and with the use of iPhone etc, sending in a picture would alleviate any extra guessing and ground-work that will cost Law Enforcement time and funds. San Diego Sheriff Dept. follow up on every lead that comes in that is credible or that has enough information to be followed up on.
The last tip that everyone has been waiting for the last few months to be resolved was supposedly in “La Paz, Baja California”. It is deemed to be closed and was NOT Summer. SDSD sent Operatives down to the area and surrounding areas to verify to be extra sure.
We are so thankful that the general public have latched onto our Family’s Story and continue to send us prayers and well wishes. Hopefully one day soon we can put this case to rest.
We wish EVERYONE a Happy Thanksgiving & Wonderful Christmas Season this year. Enjoy time with your loved ones and just remember how Thankful the McStay Family and Friends are for all the love and support.

Soooo sorry Mikey nothing still has been uncovered. I’m sure there is alot I don’t know. I have some suspicions. But I will keep them to myself. Please give your mother HUGS from me.
I think the business partner has the answers or it’s involved in their disappearance. Joseph probably called his business partner to leave a tip/clue to his brother and mother. The wooden box found was probably where the kidnapper hid to force the family leave the house. The kidnapper was probably traveling w/ the whole family when they left the house in their SUV. the kidnapper probably knew the cameras location in the mall, so he didn’t leave any tracks behind. He probably ordered someone from the family to buy big toys so that the box will not be a suspicion (Note the size of the toys bought at the last minute w/ the tickets still on it), since it was the place where he hid.
In conclusion, the business partner is very suspicious. The family was forced to leave the house because someone wanted to look like they left voluntary for the police not to open a homicide case.
Dear families,
It’s 1:30 am and I just watched the show ‘Disappeared’. Because the shows can be a bit old, I wanted to know if the family was found.
I’m disappointed to read they’re not found yet. My heart goes out to all of you.
I’m from The Netherlands. So you know that even across the ocean people know who the family is. I hope that some day someone opens their mouth and start talking. And the story isn’t safe anywhere on this world.
I wish you all the best and strength to bare this heavy and so sad situation. Like Summers sister said: ‘It sucks!’
Best regards,
Nienke
Hi,
I heard about this story on a Dateline-type show and have been interested in it ever since. My heart breaks for your family. I am so sorry for all you’ve gone through. I thought of you recently as it is the holidays and that’s the time we appreciate and come together as family most. I will pray some helpful leads come up and that one day, soon, you will all be reunited.
God bless,
Stephanie

I have been following the story of your family for 2 years now. Every time I look on this page and see there have been no answers, my heart breaks a little bit more for the family. I hope that it is some comfort to you and yours that there are people you don’t even know spending time in prayer for your loved ones. May answers be given and peace be bestowed. God bless you deeply for the trial and tribulation this has been and is on your hearts and your minds.
I haven’t seen an updated since 11/2012. Any good to report? I hope. I lived in Fallbrook
most of my life and have been following this since the start. My prayers are with you.
I am watching an episode of “Disappeared” now. The show is profiling this case. I am so very sad for the McStay family. I cannot imagine how hard it must be to have this whole family disappear with no clue about what happened to them. I will pray for Joey, Summer, and their two children. I will also pray for the two families who have been so devastated by this disappearance. May God bless all of you.
I just learned of this case tonight and I can’t imagine the pain you are all going through the not knowing is so difficult. I pray for all of you that you have some answers soon and the truth comes out. God Bless You
