Rumors are swirling about sightings of the McStay family crossing the border into Mexico and video tapes recording it all. A blogger in the interest of himself, released information with a total lack of regard for the missing family and did the same on another case less than a week earlier.
I (Mike McStay) have seen the videos firsthand along with my mom, the Aranda family, and a few family friends. The video quality is very poor. I personally could NOT make a positive identification.
This blogger has released confidential information that detracts from the pursuit of finding my family, splits energies, and is simply for his own gain. This blogger has landed Texas EquuSearch in hot water with the San Diego Sheriff Department once again, just as he did on Monday March 1, 2010. I was in the vehicle and overheard what happened on another missing persons case in San Diego county because of this blogger’s actions. [Link Below]

The vehicle was found near the border, but there are no eye witnesses as to who actually got out of the vehicle, contrary to Watts’ blog. The vehicle could have been parked by others, we simply do not know at this time.
We do know that a sweet, loving family is missing and the leads are far a few between. We know that the community has showered us with emails, concerns, and offers to help. We know that the Detectives are hard at work on this case. We know that cases like these bring out the best in many people and the worst in a few others.
I knew that post was all wrong as soon as that idiot posted it, same with the one before.
I was one of the ones to leave a comment questioning his information, which he eventually changed, but clearly the damage was done.
I hope StephW enjoys his 15 minutes, as I’m sure he will not be working as a journalist in the future.

Wow! There are many of us out here who are truly concerned and praying for your family and the safe return of Joey, Summer, Gianni and Baby J. We are perplexed, to say the least, by the lack of coverage this case is getting and the lack of good reliable information. It would appear from early articles that LE was asking for the publics help in finding clues, etc…however, recently it would appear that they are giving (or allowing) only information that is mis-leading at best and damaging at worst. Many of us are wondering why LE does not give a press conference to clear up all the mis-information and give actual facts as they know them.
I will continue to keep your family in my thoughts and prayers…trusting God.

Your anger is misdirected. I suggest you take a good hard look at summer and her activities prior to your families disappearance. I would also suggest you start looking over the border for your family..but what do I know, I’m a lousy journalist…I wish you all the best…

It is not what Watts wrote or said so much as the manner and spirit in which he did this and he is still doing this. A family is missing and it really should not matter even if they had gone into T.J. They are still missing. Steph is making it out like they did something wrong. LE has said they have not. Even if they had (which LE has said they did not) they still should not be missing off the face of the earth. TES is brought in to help and paid to help. How does this help? Someone needs to shut up Steph Watts.
WHY is anyone paying attention to Watts? He can’t spell. His website is, well this website is 20 times more professional looking. Anyone can call themselves a journalist.

Its a shame that some of the media is causing this kind of heartache for you. In a situation like this, you need the media for their coverage but it’s double edged, due to the fact that SOME of the media is causing more hurt to a very fresh wound. I have been keeping up with your missing family members on the news, and have read alot also. Please know so many have you all in our thoughts and prayers. Tim Miller of TES is an extroidinary man who continues to put his heart and soul into every missing person case he is involved with. Try not let the likes of Steph or blogger sites discourage you. WHY was Steph Watts even allowed in the house to begin with? That is what I cannot understand. He has been with some premium employers in the past, but has not stayed or been able to stay. That says a lot to me.

Everyone should remember that Jaycee Dugard’s stepfather was held in suspicion of her disappearance until she was thankfully found. I hope that you find your family safely and soon.

They have two very small children and seem to be very good people to me. Mike McStay and his wife also are good people. Focus needs to stay on finding this family and getting solved what has happened in this case. Should it turn out Summer was not perfect, I doubt that should be reason an entire family with two small children should be missing. It is ridiculous to say that this family may be in the witness relocation program. The police would have already been notified of this and the investigation ceased immediately and the family notified what had happened. THIS family has DISAPPEARED under very suspicious circumstances. I am sure that you would hope that someone would look for you if you just DROPPED off the earth, do the same for this family.
I pray that they are found safe and sound,, and no worse for the wear…. And to the jerks who doubt that they are legitimately missing, WHY would they put their family thru this, they have to know by now that their family is suffering? Steph Watts is a trouble maker. He “used” to be a journalist for ABC before he charged a nose job expense to their credit card. Google it. He is a thief. He also worked for Fox News for a very short while. He is a fry short of a happy meal. The only thing you can do is stay off of his silly dramatic blogs. STeph is all about Steph. I have been following this case. I thought by now they would have found something to indicate there was some sort of issue going on with the family. It is so bizzarre to me that this family would simply disapear without a trace on purpose. I pray they are found safe and sound and can answer some of these questions. It makes you wonder if they owed some dangerous person alot of money or something? They are a beautiful family and those boys are so precious! Truly hope they are ok! Michele

The program about this just aired here the other day. I don’t believe any of them went into Mexico willingly. I would take a serious look at any and all workmen involved in the renovation of their home, if for no other reason than to rule their involvement out. The computer search about passports is disturbing. Who all had access to their computer? My personal feeling is that someone wanted the woman and the children… Is is possible that Summer was forced to walk across the border with the children and that the man in the video was not her husband? Perhaps she was made to feel she’d better go along with that in return for her husband’s safety.
No one would cross on foot, leave all their funds behind and also make two small children walk half a mile at night.
I will pray for them. I would be half crazy if this was my family!
The Jamison family vanished in Oklahoma, leaving 32,000.00 in their car while out looking to buy some land. And they have yet to be found either.
I am sorry to say this but I agree with Locode just a little bit I believe that there needs to be more investigating into Summers past something is not right there and I believe that in the video at the Mexican border I think it was her and the two kids but I do not think man in that video was Joey. I think there is something going on with Summer or whatever her name is beings that it was changed numerous times… not wanting to offend just stating my opinion I hope all are found healthy and together and my thoughts and prayer go out to the family!!

I’ve seen the “Disappeared” episode a couple of times now and there’s some things that really popped out. Something made them abruptly leave, because of the eggs left out, the popcorn in the bowls, and leaving their dogs without care. It also said, “that Summer was really stressed out over the new house.” The fact that there was 4 days between the time someone last heard from them and the time their car was found. I think it was a spur of the moment plan and they left on their own. I think it was your brother and his family crossing the border and it was also them at that restaurant. Your brother was so talented, is it possible that he started a new business somewhere deeper in Mexico or even further south? Is it possible that he was unable to communicate with you when they left the way they did? There’s a real reason why they left the way they did. I really think that your brother will eventually contact you. I believe they’re still all alive, but not living in the States. I’m really just like you, trying to think backward from the minute they left their house and where they are now. I hope you’ll find something soon. I really am concerned for you and do hope that there will be a positive outcome.
McStay Family, Please put your efforts into investigating Summers history before involvement with your family. I’ve seen many cases like this, and thats where it is all pointing to in my view. They had no reason to get up and leave, she has had 6 name changes in recent years along with fraudulent birth certificates, and it almost appears that everyone believes it to be her and the kids in the border video, but not Joseph. Please look into it. This isnt even my family and I check in multiple times a week, hoping to get a response that is good. Please, look at Summer…
I was watching the show tonight and I’m feeling very sorry for you to have all of this pain. It has been a long time now and still no answers. I am wondering if the phone records and gps for phones were looked at at all. I mean, running it through my head, I think… Someone’s making dinner (eggs left on sideboard), children just started eating popcorn and left a bit of a mess, and just got up and left? No-one called them to get them to go out of the house? No-one knocked in the door? They weren’t in a rush as the camera shows (neighbour’s security cam) and they just casually walk to the car and drive off normally? It’s weird. Then go buy toys and then over the border? If that was them. I think it’s all over the place. Very confusing. Something is not right here. Someone was involved. You don’t just leave you’re dogs that you love without someone to look after them. And you don’t go to a cafe and talk about places to go in Mexico. I think they had at least something to run away from, or run to.
I really hope you do find something. Shed some light on this mysterious situation.

First of all I realy hope your family get to find your love ones. We have been deeply moved by this case even though we are in South Africa.
Some things that from the little we saw on Disappeared ID did not make 100% sence.
1) How long did Joseph know Summer before they were married?
2) Did he know about all the name changes?
3) Why did the police not check all the records of the stores in there area for the two days in question (day they went missing and the day the car was found)? They would have found the slip for the purchase.
4) Why 4 days before the car was left. This alone suggest foul play to me. The mother of Joseph did not think it was him on the video and the car full of toys also add more to this mistery.
One reason for buying kids toys is to calm them after a traumatic experience. But it could have been a gift.
5) My feeling is that Summer may have gone over the border with someone else than Joseph. If her past use of her passport included trips to Mexico this will just add to this theory. According to family she did not like the idea of going over to Mexico? Why?
If she did visit Mexico in the past this can just give more weight to this. What did her live intail before she met Joseph? To that I have no insight nor information. But to be pregnant for the first time at 37/38 years of age suggest that she could had already lived a totaly differant live to what we think. This is somethng the family would know and I am also sure they would have tried to find out about it if they did not.
6) The sighting in Baja Cakafornia must not be discarded only because of fingerprints.
If Joseph had not gone over the border with Summer, it could be someone elses finger prints who may be involved.
7) The above is just thoughts and It could be that total strangers took them over the border. Strangers that had 4 days to get the kids (toys) to trust them. And his trust only need to be so that the kids would walk over the border with them. BUT the toys could have been birthday gift for Baby J. The reason being that it was covered. Two reasons, a) to keep the kids fom seeing it or just to hide it from smash and grab robbers.
I know all this is just speculation, but it is only intended to maybe give new perspective.

As i’m ignorant to the status of your situation, please forgive any phopahs, in my perceiving the story, i am only trying to be helpful.
Has the ravine under the bridge where their cellphones last pinged been searched (possibly with metal detectors?)
Could the last job interviewee that Joe visited have possibly failed at an extortion attempt?
Is it possible to acquire to acquire cell phone records/pings from the McStay residence, on the day their computer did searches on Mexico, in order to suggest that maybe it wasn’t Joe or Summer at the computer, but maybe a pre meditated social visitor?
Is it possible that someone who stood to gain the most, financially, had something to do with this?
Was their car fingerprinted? If so, were Whole hand prints found?
You all look like a wonderful family, one of which i’m sure Summer would have been proud to belong… Despite her apparent insecurities, i strongly doubt that she would have deliberately caused you all so much pain…. or left her dog without food and water.
I cannot imagine what it is like, to live without an answer, on such a big question….

If someone wants to truly disappear, why is Mexico the only other country they would be in? Personal experience at airports in Mexico has shown that security questions can easily be dismissed with a $20 tip. (no passport only hospital issued birth certificate). If you wanted to get away, couldn’t u cross the border to Mexico and obtain a flight into yet ANOTHER country from there?
Is there any other destination (aside from Mexico) that the McStays ever mentioned in conversation, had visited before, had friends in, etc?
Look, They got up and left their home, drove to the border, parked, walked across under NO duress, and vanished. This is clearly what they intended all along, so perhaps everyone should leave them alone??? I know that the ‘family’ does not want to face the fact that they did not matter enough to be included in the family’s plan, but this is not about you…it’s about them and the life they chose to live. Perhaps you should stop picking apart LE and Media, and leave them to live in the peace they were so clearly seeking….

@Kaahree, what you’ve missed is that they left the house on the 4th, and the people that went across the border did so on the 8th. No one knows where they were in between, nor can they be 100% sure it was them that crossed the border.
