SDSD PressRelease
San Diego Sheriff Department Official Press Release.

San Diego Sheriff Department was the primary lead on our case from the very beginning with many other agencies , including the FBI and DOJ, assisting in running down all the tips that came across Detective DuGal’s desk.
This morning at 8:30am my phone rings with a number I clearly recognize as the lead Detective on the case. He assured me that a Press Release was being conducted “as we speak” and he read off to me what was to be said. SDSD has been very supportive throughout this whole ordeal and clearly wants to resolve our missing family person’s case.
The FBI has always taken part in our case because there are small minor children involved. The portion of the FBI that investigates missing children has been assisting SDSD from day one. I know that my mom and I are happy with SDSD and are optimistic with the resources that the FBI brings to the table.
We simply want to know what happened to our missing loved ones. We are grateful that there has been so much love and support the past 3 years.

There’s been a lot of speculation about this case. This venue, that webpage, this side or that side, he said she said.
The Aranda family, my Dad, Joey’s oldest son, my Mom & I have been living this nightmare from day one from “Inside the Caution Tape”. Some people write a book having never met the family. In these tough economic times you gotta do something when your show ends I guess.
Many of you know that my mom was married to Tom Blake from “Tutor & Spunky’s Deli” in Dana Point where Joey and I graduated from Dana Hills High School. Tom is the reason we moved to California from Texas and he still a big part of my life even though Spunky & Tom went their separate way back in 1993. Tom writes for the OC Register, is a columnist for various newspapers and has a few books out as well. Some months back while having lunch with him at the Deli he had suggested I write a book.
I have decided to give it a go and Tom has agreed to help me out.
I really want to thank everyone who has supported our families the last few years in these terribly trying times. Hopefully the case will be resolved before the book comes out so we can have a happy ending.

This has been a tough week for the family since it is not only Joey’s birthday on the 20th, but also Thanksgiving as well.
I know that sitting at lunch yesterday with Joey’s oldest son, we were missing 4 more loved ones and were left with only questions. The whole social media thing has caused this case to get a little “Jerry Springer-esk” for me. For some, it’s a story. For us, it’s real life.
Coming up in February will mark 3 years of their absence, and yet the Detectives, Family, & Friends still tirelessly do whatever they can to assist in the case. For everyone out there trying to help out, we are very grateful. For those who send in tips, we are grateful.
There have been many “vague” tips for the SDSD to chase down, so a suggestion has come up that should help. TAKE A PICTURE!!!!! When emailing or calling in tips, and with the use of iPhone etc, sending in a picture would alleviate any extra guessing and ground-work that will cost Law Enforcement time and funds. San Diego Sheriff Dept. follow up on every lead that comes in that is credible or that has enough information to be followed up on.
The last tip that everyone has been waiting for the last few months to be resolved was supposedly in “La Paz, Baja California”. It is deemed to be closed and was NOT Summer. SDSD sent Operatives down to the area and surrounding areas to verify to be extra sure.
We are so thankful that the general public have latched onto our Family’s Story and continue to send us prayers and well wishes. Hopefully one day soon we can put this case to rest.
We wish EVERYONE a Happy Thanksgiving & Wonderful Christmas Season this year. Enjoy time with your loved ones and just remember how Thankful the McStay Family and Friends are for all the love and support.

There has been a lot of murmur and stirring on another website that the McStay Family has been found in New Mexico.
This information has not been confirmed by Law Enforcement. Joseph’s brother Michael, has placed multiple calls into the San Diego Sheriff’s Department to try a confirm this lead. It has yet to be resolved as every other lead in this case has been up to this point 2 1/2 years later.
We would like to thank everyone for all the support over the last two and a half years with attempt to encourage the family of the missing loved ones to “keep our chin up” and “keep believing.” We only hope that there is a positive outcome in this case.
Please keep praying for the safe return of our beloved family Joseph, Summer, Gianni, and Guiseppe Mateo McStay.

Going through the comments page today and updating the website, I noticed a comment from Summer’s sister Tracy Russell. I feel that it is important to post her comments as an article, since she is the voice of her sister in her absence. Keep in mind that with this grief every family member is enduring, the comments being blogged, facebooked, and edited by the media have an impact on all of us. Every careless or hurtful word is like pouring salt on an open wound that has yet to heal. Here are her words….
Tracy Ann Russell wrote:

“”I think about going on blogs, tv shows, fb pages, etc. to set people straight for the hurtful lies that are said about my sister and give truth to all your assumptions & lies! It would be a never ending battle. I agonize everyday over what it is I should be doing to find them and honor her? I get your emails & friend requests daily and I am sorry but friending/emailing you will not bring my family back.
I am thankful their faces remain in the media and I’m grateful posters are still up. I hope it’ll bring closure for our families! Yet I don’t agree with the media & or the people that come into our lives & say they want to help & are only interested in making this into a 3 ring circus! We have 4 beautiful missing people & that should be the ONLY focus!! It’s been almost two years now and there is NOTHING new to report/share.
It be great if we could make assumptions a thing of the past, pretend it went out of style like a horrible fad, look in our photo albums and say to our kids, I remember those days when assumptions were a part of our everyday mindset, gosh we were crazy, what in the world were we thinking?!?!?! “”
End Quote.
Please Everyone, keep in mind that almost two years later, A family of four is still missing. They are loved and worth ever bit of this fight we are enduring through media screw-ups, misquotes, wrong facts, and terrible edits that are simply designed to “one up” the competition and drive more traffic to their pocketbooks, and/or make the story more enthralling. Ultimately, I look beyond all this because it’s part to the machine that I must personally endure to keep our family’s pictures & story in the public’s eyes. The general public has more than showered us with love and support and truly “get it” and see through the smoke and mirrors. Mike McStay

Two Years Later and yet we are still at square one. We have exhausted every lead that every Media Outlet has produced and still we have had NOT ONE confirmed sighting.
Two Years Later and the families are still scratching their heads in disbelief that this case isn’t solved at this point. Surely someone has seen our loved ones and has the courage to come forward to resolve the aching and constant nagging pain in our hearts that is unrelenting and almost unmanageable.
Yet here we all are, steadfast and fighting for answers.
We will be doing a few San Diego & LA News Stations this week in preparation for the upcoming 2 Year Anniversary of the disappearance of Joseph, Summer, Gianni & Joseph Mateo McStay.
Thank You for all the love and support the past couple of years. One day soon, we will have answers….

E! Investigates with Laura Ling will air this Thursday December 15th we are told by producer Randy. We are very grateful for the help and support in getting our family’s story out there for the public to be aware of. To date, there have been no confirmed sightings since their disappearance on February 4, 2010.
Hopefully, this show will produce some leads in solving our case.

E! Investigates is currently lending a hand in producing an hour show covering our family’s story. Our family is still missing after almost 20 months. 20 months!
I will entertain any reasonable offer to produce a show covering my brother, sister, & nephews. The more the pictures and information is plastered over the airwaves, the better the opportunity we have in generating leads for law enforcement to pursue.
E! has stepped up and we are grateful for any assistance we can get from the media to help.
E! has a large following and hopefully someone who knows something will have the courage to come forward.
All tips should be forwarded to the mcstayfamily.com website, the San Diego Sheriff Department, or CrimeStoppers.

Jordan Watters
Mike, can you describe the general area where the house was located that had the surveillance camera? No worries if you don’t want to comment for personal reasons. I know the video has said to be worthless of evidence. I’m just curious if it was a house directly in front of them, down the road, or on the cul-de-sac?
Michael Mikey McStay
The neighbor wants to remain anonymous. There are two camera angles. 1. From the 2nd Floor eave aiming down to see who would be entering a side gate. 2. One under the eave at mezzanine level (Approx. 9′) to see who’s at the front door. Both… cameras are for home security, but are motion activated. The lights of the Isuzu Trooper triggered the system to turn on, and the top of the wheel down is all that is shown. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE WHO WAS INSIDE.

FB QUESTION: from Jason Parmelee
“Curious to know if it is of public record about the contents of the vehicle other than car seats and toys. Fast food wrappers and was there enough for two adults and two children or ONE adult? Receipts? They were away from home for 3 days before the vehicle was spotted and towed. They had to eat, they had to sleep, they had to use the bathroom somewhere, yet no one remembered seeing them.”
There was enough room for two adults and two car seats, but it would be incredibly tight for another adult to sit in the rear seat between the two oversized car seats. Also, between the two rear child seats, on the hump between the floor board, was Joey Sr. tupperware with asthma medication. The detectives told me this was important because it shows that there wasn’t an additional person in the car or the tupperware bowl would have been knocked over. In the rear of the car were the kitchen set of toys, etc.. Best to view either Disappeared or Vanished to see the still photos of items. I think it was on the Disappeared epidsode. The car was found in the locked postion. There were no credit card transactions after the Feb 4th, 2010. This four day gap between Feb 4 til Feb 8th 2010 has always bothered the detective and our family. There have been no confirmed sightings since Feb 4th 2010. The only possible video of the trooper was at 7:47pm of the bottom quarter panel of the vehicle. I personally saw this video and noone can be seen in the car because of the angles of the cameras. The video is time-signatured.
